Guarding Against Home Invasions

What is a home invasion? At SecurityProTech we want you and your loved ones to be safe and we don't want this to happen to you! A home invasion is when someone enters your home while you are in the home. Does that sound scary you better believe it is! It happens all the time. Many home invasions happen when a door is left unlocked allowing the intruder to open the door without any force, they just open the door and walk in.

Other times home invasions happen when a locked door is penetrated by brute force such as kicking in the door. In my experience working as a Locksmith and Security Consultant it was very common to find home invasions thru sliding glass doors. Many home invasions happen because most people don't take the time to evaluate their individual situation and take the proper steps to secure their home.

When a home invasion happens it is a terrible thing because the occupants are home at time so the motive of the intruder could be robbery, rape, assault or all three.

Shown here is very inexpensive but very effective security device the "Security Bar". It can be used to secure any Exterior Door in minutes or be used on a Sliding Glass door. It can also be used when traveling and will fit nicely in a suitcase. This bar would be used in addition to your door locks or deadbolt (See #2 Below) to secure your door.
Click on the picture to see it in our store.

Simple But Effective Ways to Secure Your Home & Prevent a Home Invasion

1. Get in the habit of locking your doors whenever you enter your home.

2. Take time to evaluate situation of your home and your options to secure it properly. At SecurityProTech we offer a large selection of security products to make your home safer.

Caution! Do Not rely solely on your home locks & deadbolts! I have seen many, many doors of home where an invader either kicked in a door which had a deadbolt or used several crow bars to simply pry the door open shattering the frame. Many deadbolts are installed by a Carpenter not by a Security Professional so the majority of deadbolt locks are not secure. The door frame not the door is usually the weakest point.

3. Be prepared to defend yourself! Keep several Home size Pepper Spray in your living room and bedroom where you can easily get to them.

Shown is our Pepper Spray Value Pack which contains 3 Pepper Sprays a Discounted Price over being purchased separately. It has a large Home Size Pepper Spray, a Personal Size Pepper Spray and a Pepper Spray that mounts on the visor of your car.

We also offer Large One Pound Police Strength Pepper Sprayers.

4. Don't ever have the attitude it could never happen to you! Be security minded - Be Smart! Be Safe! Be Prepared.

Alert Shopper Stops Robber Suspect With Pepper Spray!

Here’s a heart warming story that took place in Jacksonville, Florida. This took place after a robber tried snatching a 77-year-old woman’s purse at a Kangaroo Express.

A “one-man crime spree” was halted by a 77-year-old woman with a can of pepper spray, Jacksonville police said Wednesday. Torre Sebastian Harris, 20, was arrested Tuesday about 5:30 p.m. shortly after a robbery at a Kangaroo Express store in the 8300 block of Baymeadows Road. Chief David Stevens of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said a man entered the store, pointed a gun in the clerk’s face and demanded money.

The contents of the cash register didn’t satisfy him, so he tried to snatch a customer’s purse, according to a police report. The victim, Gladys Gehrig, fought back and sprayed the thief with a container of pepper spray attached to her key chain. “She got him good in the face,” Stevens said. Police picked Harris up a short distance away.

Stevens said he was linked to six other robberies throughout January on the city’s Southside by witness identifications and surveillance footage. Harris was charged with 14 felonies and held in lieu of bail.

Buy A Pepper Spray!

Below is an email I received from one of our suppliers from a person that had good cause to use her pepper spray. Thankfully, she was carrying it.

On Sunday night, I was at Super Target on Roosevelt Boulevard. I was getting into my car at about 8 p.m. when a man attacked me and tried to force himself and me into the car. I had loaded my items, returned the cart, and upon getting into my car, I saw the reflection of the man running at the car in my side mirror. I tried to slam the door shut but it was too late.

He jumped in the car and was sitting on the driver’s seat with me, pushing me, pulling my hair, and shouting at me to move over. I fought back as hard as I could - yelling, shoving him out, honking the horn, trying to key him in the eye, and luckily I had pepper spray on my keychain that I sprayed at him. The guy eventually got back out of the car and took off running. He got in a truck with another guy and they sped away. I was in a well-lit spot in the parking lot - just 3 or 4 spots from the entrance to Target. Despite my honking and yelling, no one came to help.

Thank God that I am fine - just a few bumps and bruises, and I managed to get away, but I hate the thought that somebody else would not be that lucky. This guy is still out there, and I’m sure he’s not the only crazy that would do something like he did. Please be careful and please be aware! Don’t ever think you’re being overly cautious. Had I been less aware, this guy may have accomplished what he intended to do, and I don’t even want to think of the possibilities. We hear of this stuff happening, and I know I sort of had the attitude that, yes, it happens, but it won’t happen to me. I learned the hard way that it can happen to anyone in any place - there are some terrible people out there.

Self-Defense Right & Wrong Thinking!

Be Smart! Be Safe! Be Prepared!

In the world we live in crimes like assault, robbery, or rape or even a more violent crime can strike at any time. One of the worst and most dangerous attitudes you can have is it will never happen to me this is "Wrong Thinking". A good attitude and "Right Thinking" is it could happen to me but I am prepared for it when it comes. This kind of thinking could prevent you from becoming a victim and could possibly save your life.

To protect yourself properly you need to have "Right Thinking" and right thinking is what I call "Personal Protection Awareness". You must have an awareness what is going on around you at all times in every situation or circumstance you find yourself. To be aware of your surroundings and your position of safety in those surroundings. For example every time you leave your house, go shopping, coming home, going for a walk are you aware of what is going on around you? Are you prepared?

This may be a new way of thinking for some people but it is important. It doesn't mean you have to live in fear just be aware and ready. Remember your personal safety is and should be priority number one. Are you prepared to protect yourself?

Here is a brief quiz to see how prepared you are, simply answer yes or no to the questions:

1. Do you have your car keys attached to a pepper spray? If someone attacked you when you were walking to/or from or getting into your car you would you be prepared?

If you carry pepper spray do you know how to use it effectively? We offer a self defense manual on how to use pepper spray CLICK HERE TO SEE IT.

2. Do you have a pepper spray clipped to your visor in your vehicle so you could quickly reach up if it was needed to defend yourself in the case of someone trying to carjack your auto with you in it?

3. Do you have the attitude I don't want to carry a stun gun, or pepper spray because you wouldn't want to hurt anyone? (Try reversing that how about someone hurting you?)

4. Do you carry pepper spray or canine (dog repellent) spray like Mace Canine Spray when going for walks, jogging or ridding your bike?

5. If you are taking the same route to work daily or a regularly attended function DO YOU ever observe to see if someone (seeing the same vehicle) is following you?

6. Is there proper lighting where you exit or leave your residents?

7. If you carry pepper spray do you know how to use it effectively?

Did you answer yes or no to these questions?
Are you using "Personal Protection Awareness"?

We offer many quality products like Mace, Stun Master Stun Guns, Personal Alarms, to help you protect yourself at our store at
www.SecurityProTech.com . We also offer many security products like alarms that are easy to set up for the home, apartment, condo, dorm rooms etc. to help keep you safe.

Don't make the mistake of not being prepared for the worst. A good attitude is I expect not to be a victim of a violent crime but if the occasion should arise I am well prepared to defend myself.

Some of this information was taken from "Don't Be A Victim" A Manual of Self Protection written by Michael Brandt. Michael is also owner of Security-Pro-Tech self-defense supply.
